Social Events

New term three timetable is now ready! Click here to view.

Social events are the glue that binds our learners together, and learners that hang out together, tend to jam together all the better. Some of these are open to everyone. The events where there is high demand and limited space are reserved for people currently engaged in learning.

In nearly all cases we aim to make no profit from Social events and many are free. Where a price is indicated this is likely to just cover costs.

People coming to events for the first time will find themselves made to feel welcome and will be linked up with kindred spirits as soon as they walk through the door. Many people have described our events as one of the highlights of any program with us; we’re looking forward to seeing you at one soon.

Events coming up.

The Guitar Gullet, Turkey. 30th of June to the 7th of July. SOLD OUT

Seven days of sailing around the Mediterranean with daily workshops, evening jams, swimming, sunbathing, reading and whatever else people do on holiday.

Beer Chords, Kentish Town, 6pm 12th of July, £20.

Some people don’t like barre chords. Lots of people like beer. A one-hour barre chord workshop followed by a beer tasting event. Beer Chords. Beer chords!

thomas@theguitarsocial.com for bookings.

TGS Open Mic, The Sheephaven Bay, Camden, 7pm, 19th of July.

Could this be the best Open Mic in London? I’d say so, and though I may be biased here’s my reasons why…

1) A crowd of people that will be just as happy to hear from players that have just started as they would the advance musicians.
2) A big crowd!
3) A crowd that knows when to be quiet and when to go mental.

All welcome. Bring a friend, come alone and you’ll be amongst friends instantly.

TGS at Massive, London Bridge, 7pm 20th of July.

A sensational live band plays rock, pop and indie anthems with giant video lyrics, and the audience, singing, is the star of the show. They’ll take you on a glittering, spandex-clad journey through all your favourite sing-along hits, with mash-ups, megamixes and more.
This has ‘session’ written all over it! There is a Tesco just up the road so zero cost of entry + cheap booze is bound to make it a super fun night!
Loads of places round there for us to move on to post sing-a-long too.

For an exact meeting location text 07425871904 on the day.

Rock and Roll Pizza Club, The Libertine Pub, London Bridge, 7pm 28th of July.

Featuring three solo spots from some of the Guitar Socials finest and followed with a live karaoke to end all love karaokes (whatever that means.
Bring your singing voice or just an ability to shout loudly.

BBQ’s, Booze and Tunes, Higbury Fields, 4pm 11th of August.

Back on Highbury fields to grasp what is left of the summer. Big easy acoustic tunes for everyone to jam.

07425871904 for exact location.

Band Camp Returns, Surrey, 11am 17th of August to 12pm 19th of August.

Unprecedented here at TGS, we’re doing a second Band Camp in one year (apart from least year, when we also did two…)

You’ll be driven in the fun bus from London to a beautiful private wood land in Surrey where there’ll be a weekend of workshops, jamming, tree climbing, falling out of hammocks, staying up late/or going to be early if that’s your thing, songs, riffs, food, bottomless booze and friendships formed.

The cost is £155 and it covers everything, food, drinks, pitch, travel and other costs incurred along the way. P{layers of all levels are welcome.

TGS Music Quiz, Camden TBC, 7pm 24th of August

Some properly difficult and some ridiculously easy questions about music delivered with a kind of sickening arrogance and total disregard to fact.

Rock and Roll Pizza Club, The Libertine Pub, London Bridge, 7pm 25th of August.

Featuring live music from The Wild East plus support followed by banging tunes to keep your feet moving until we’re all thrown out.
There’ll be Pizza as well.

TGS at Spiritual Records, The Monarch, Chalk Farm Road, 2pm Bank Holiday Monday 27th of August.

Spiritual Records is an indie Folk/Blues record label based in Camden. They host a couple of all day music festival things a year with the guys and gals signed to their label. I’ve been to some before and they are always super fun and the crowd are really friendly – kinda feels like a big family!
The musical talent on display is always incredible – I’m surprised they are still playing in bars!!

TGS in Berlin! 18th to the 22nd of September 2018.

TGS has been to Prague, Turkey and the Musical Forest twice in the last twelve months and each trip has been way beyond average, some might even say pretty good, so we thought we’d have a stab at being great by going to Berlin.

You’ll be staying in TGS Towers Berlin which is a massive house full of guitars and Guitar Social People. Aside form workshops we have extra surprises lined up which will be announced shorty.

Pound Shop Band, 3rd of March, 3pm, Camden Venue TBC, Free

When I was a boy we didn’t need amazing instruments to be in a band. We made them out of lumps of coal and our mother’s misery. We’d beat a bit of tin with the same belt our fathers would beat us with for smoking in the garden shed. We’d blow down the drain pipe in the absence of a trumpet. I for one, consider these the glory days, and I’d like to bring them back. So…
We start with a Skiffle workshop. Skiffle was a very early form of blues in which musicians would play using homemade instruments. Then we take a load of junk bought from the pound shop and turn them into instruments to make our own skiffle band. Simple, right? Only ten spots available. Text 07425871904 to secure your spot. Priority is given to people on a course or about to start a course.

The Guitar Social Movie Club, 9th of March, 7.30pm, Camden-Secret Location, £13

We’ll be taking over a most unusual location in Camden to show a documentary about Latin Jazz, which will be followed by a live performance of…some Latin Jazz! If that doesn’t sound Jazzy enough they’ll be some rum cocktails to inspire some jazzy dancing. Space is very limited at 25 tickets, money pays for the band and can be purchased here. Location will be sent out on the day of the event but here’s a clue, its Camden.

Tickets will be on sale from Monday the 19th of February from this page.
