Things I watched, read and listened to this week #10

This week I was in the Pennines and the Lake District delivering a Guitar Social retreat, so, I haven't read any books, I haven't watched any movies. I have however, listened to some incredible music and I've seen some pretty amazing sights.

Here's my review of the musicians that joined us this year and the lowdown on one of the most beautiful hikes I have taken.
Live music review
After a day's hiking, eating beautiful food and workshopping, we met in the bar which gladly was stowed away in the very building we were staying in. Picture the kind of small country pub you happen upon when up in the hills. Now fill it with guitar players.

After pouring the drinks and jamming some songs together, the stage is thrown open to anyone that wants it, and this year, at some point, everyone got up and shared some music. So, a massive shout out to Chris, David, Gill, Michael, Vim, Ella, Graham, Jenny, Lorenzo, Romily, Stephen and Steve for the songs you played, the courage shown and for showing that little bar the meaning of rock and roll.
A hike review
This was our final hike. Half the group came along, the other half decided to take a two hour steam train ride into the Pennines and allow their legs to rest a little. With six in attendance we headed off in the bus into the rain and mist and beyond that into the unknown. This hike was like how a gig should be. Or how the best movies are. It started great, had a few challenges, like the steps up the mountain and deeper into the clouds and mist, had a strong end to the second act as we stood on top of the peak and then a third act that just built and built and got better as we descended, the weather cleared up and we walked up high with a view of Ullswater. Imagine what you think hiking in the Lake District might be like, then apply a wide lens and a cinematic filter,s then put yourself in my head, tired, a little emotional, on the final day of an epic retreat, and you'll know why this is one hike I will carry with me for a long time.
