Three days of music, woodsmoke, companionship and good living in the heart of Kent.
What it is
Spread across five acres of woodland and meadows in a stunning location in Kent, Band Camp is a haven for people who love meeting new people, learning new skills and creating music away from YouTube, away from the apps, out in the real world.
Your time will be spent attending guitar workshops delivered by a team of Guitar Social tutors covering a variety of playing styles in locations such as 'under the oak tree', 'deep in the woods', and 'somewhere down there in in the glade'
When not doing workshops, all of which are optional, you’ll be engaged in idle chat with friendly faces, eating gorgeous food, maybe enjoying some drinks, jamming with people who enjoy the same music as you, and wondering why life isn’t always like this.
Meanwhile, groups will be forming—duos and trios—working on songs in preparation for the big event: a nightly party deep in the heart of the woods, illuminated by candles and fire pits, where those who are willing get the chance to play a song with the sound of wood cracking in the fire as accompaniment.
The Guitar Social hosts retreats all across the world, all of them magical and loaded with adventure. Band Camp was the first we ever did, and because of that, it has a special place in our hearts and the hearts of those who attend time and time again.
We can’t wait for you to join us.
Here are some details you might find useful.
How many people attend and what level of player?
We usually have thirty to forty people join us. Some are new to guitar, and some are quite far down the road with their playing. Ages range, but usually start in the early twenties and reach right up to more mature numbers. Our oldest learner—and most loved—was 98!
Regardless of how long you have played, or even if you have never played but are looking for a way to get your guitar journey underway, you are welcome.
People under the age of 18 are welcome, but typically attend with a family member or older guest.
Where is it?
The closest train station is Harrietsham. The nearest big town is Maidstone.
Some people choose to travel in by train and take the 45-minute walk to the site; others drive in and use the on-site parking.
The address and postcode are provided after booking.
What's the food like?
Heavenly. We eat very well, and all dietary requirements are welcomed and covered.
Everyone in attendance is allocated one cooking shift where they work with a team of seven people to prepare a generous meal for everyone to enjoy at our outdoor banqueting table.
All food is covered in your ticket price.
Drinks
Band Camp hosts a free bar stocked with wines, beers, teas, coffee and soft drinks.
For those looking for something a little extra, the site owners run a herbal cocktail bar which is usually well attended at around sunset.
Workshops
Guitar workshops start at 10:30 a.m and run till 5:00 p.m with multiple tutors working across the site.
Sessions include, but are not exclusive to: beginner playing skills, fingerstyle, jazz, blues, lead and improvisation, funk, easy songs to jam, country techniques and guitar theory.
Frequently other workshops are offered including yoga, bass guitar and percussion basics. We will announce those closer to the time.
Got a workshop idea you’d like to deliver? Let us know.
Facilities
Domestic toilets and hot showers
Accommodation
A number of huts, cabins and unique glamping options are available but sell out fast.
Bell tents are shared amongst four people, and we are very careful to match people with genders and ages kept in mind. The bell tents are big, spacious and come with a made-up bed ensuring a good night’s sleep.
Your own tent can be placed anywhere on site, with some people taking the option to make home underneath a tree, down in the woods or in one of the open fields and glades.
If you have any questions, let us know.
See you at camp :)
