A Folk guitar course with Frances The singer songwriters - 2 weeks

Course Overview 

We all pick up the guitar for different reasons and this course is about celebrating those that are learning the guitar to sing with it, or to accompany other people while they sing. These are the gentle souls that you'll find around a campfire at events like The Guitar Social's bandcamp, playing lush songs and rich melodies composed by some of the greatest song writers of all time. 

This is brought to you in two blocks of four week sessions. You may book one, but if you book two, there’s a discount for you. Money saved, which you can spend on new strings. 

There’s also the option to select a song where you become the lead vocalist in the group. 

Level and pre-existing skills

This is an improver level course but all levels above that are welcome to join. Improver  means that you can play open chords and are comfortable changing between them. You will have played some songs, you can read tabs and are comfortable with chord boxes. 

Learning outcomes 

• Finding your voice - adjusting songs on the guitar to suit your voice best through capos and transposing.
• Strumming patterns, simple fingerpicking and rhythm - and adjusting this to help you sing at the same time.
• Playing songs from influential singer songwriters from folk, pop, and indie rock.
• Learning to use a looper pedal to help you focus on your singing and still being able to show off your guitar skills.
• Using the full fretboard to get more feelings and variety out of your music.

Electric or acoustic? 

Most people attend this with an acoustic guitar, but electric players are just as welcome. If you are bringing an electric guitar, please bring your amp and lead. 

Can't make every session?

This is very common. If you miss up to a third of your program, we can keep you up to speed with video and email support.  We are also flexible with our schedule. If you need to jump on another session on a different date, the answer is always yes.

Course includes 

• Four or eight sessions lasting between 70 and 90 minutes
• A course book full of guidance and resources 
• Access to a YouTube playlist to assist you in your at home practice 
• An opportunity to play live with your group, backed by The Guitar Social house band, at the end of term party
• An invite to join our WhatsApp community made up of multiple groups assisting practice, building connections and talking all things music and the guitar 
• Entry to all of The Guitar Socials events including an event just for your group where you'll get to know your jam buddy's outside of the session room
