Beginners Drum Course - Saturday 27th September to 8th November (except 4th October)

Course Overview

You’ll be working with a pro drummer, learning how to read rhythms, form grooves and, via The Guitar Socials network of almost daily jams, apply what you’ve learnt in a real world setting.

You’ll also get one session with your tutor, Adam, where you can pick his rhythmic brain and have your technique finessed.

The song choices will be a mix of your own choosing with some added that match up with our Guitar and Bass courses, allowing you the chance to attend our other classes as our guest drummer. We will work with you and your schedule to make this happen.

Level and pre-existing skills

This is a beginners program, no previous experience is required. Just a desire to ... groove.

Do you need a drum kit to take part?

No, all you need is a pair of sticks and a drum pad, like this one. You can also book yourself into the in house Guitar Social practice room where you'll find a drum kit ready for your use.

What you get

  • Six 90 minute group sessions
  • One private one to one
  • Three sessions as The Guitar Social’s in house drummer in our jam sessions, providing the opportunity to apply what you’ve learnt
  • A seat behind the kit for a song at our end of term party, playing live in-front of 100 + people with a full backing band. This is optional, but always fun.
  • Access to The Guitar Social’s community of musicians to practice with and form the greatest band that ever existed
  • Free access to our practice studio with a full drum kit your disposal

Learning outcomes

  • Get ready to play drums in a band
  • Learn different grooves and fills, and move between the two
  • Develop proper technique for holding sticks
  • Read rhythm and master playing different subdivisions
  • Learn to keep time and play to a metronome
  • Develop your own rhythmic ideas
  • Master the art of practice (and how to grow as a musician over time)

What songs and Genres

Some of the songs will be picked to line up with songs being played in our bass and guitar courses, enabling you to get in those sessions and apply your knowledge with other musicians. You'll also have the chance to work on tracks of your own choosing in your one to ones and at home practice.
