Intermediate Folk Guitar

Course Overview

A course for those that are drawn to the storytelling of folk music, the rhythmic drive of traditional strumming, or the intricate beauty of fingerpicking.

You'll explore what folk music is, its key artists, and the techniques that define its sound. Every new concept is introduced through songs, ensuring that what you learn is immediately put into context and crucially, applied, in the real world, with other musicians, just as your folk heroes would have liked it. 

What You'll Learn

• Strumming patterns for folk rhythms
• Fingerpicking techniques including but not exclusive to Travis Picking and Melodic Picking
• Playing in open tunings for new sounds
• Folk-style chord progressions
• Beautiful folk intervals 

Electric or Acoustic?

Most players bring an acoustic guitar, but electrics are welcome too. If you’re bringing an electric, please bring your own amp and leads.

Missed a Session? No Problem.

We know life gets busy. If you miss up to a third of the course, we’ll keep you on track with video and email support.  If you are likely to miss more than a third, we recommend you come book and book when your diary is a bit more free.

We are also happy to have you attend any of our other guitar classes with other tutors to make up for lost time. 

Course Includes:

• Eight sessions, each lasting 70-90 minutes
• A comprehensive course book filled with guidance and resources
• Access to a YouTube playlist to support your at-home practice
• The opportunity to perform live with your group, backed by The Guitar Social house band, at our end of term party
• An invite to join our WhatsApp community, where you can connect with other musicians, share progress, and get extra support
• Entry to all Guitar Social events, plus a dedicated gathering for your group to build connections beyond the classroom
