Course Overview 

We are keen to see more female players taking ownership of playing disciplines that are typically orbited by men such as soloing, improvisation and songs that sit on the slightly heavier end of the genre spectrum.

With all the progressive ideas found in our improver and intermediate courses but with an emphasis on women taking the lead, our intention is to support and develop players that are ready to guide, direct and make significant impact in jams and in the wider musical sphere. 

Level 

This is a hybrid improver and intermediate course.

Pre existing skills 

Competent with open chords

Familiar with, or ready to progress with barre chords 

Able to read tabs, and you have perhaps used tabs to play solos or ri


Learning Outcomes

  • Our learning takes us wherever the song leads us, but core learning outcomes include 
  • Major and minor pentatonic scale and how to use them in improvised lead work during our weekly free form jams
  • Weekly free form jams allowing for application of scales in improvised jamming sessions 
  • Four iconic riffs from our riff bank plus one small and one larger solo, all applied in class
  • Fretboard knowledge as a means to unlocking key principles for musical growth 
  • Application of inversions in jam settings 

Mini modules 

We’ll be doing a mini folk module, introducing finger picking, exploring classic folk music along with contemporary pieces along with other models which may include punk, blues and rock techniques.

Theis course sits across pop, rock, folk and indie genres. We are in the process of selecting songs for the new course but if you have any suggestions, please do email them through. 

Electric or acoustic? 

Bring whichever you prefer playing and feel the most comfortable with. Electric players are expected to bring their own amps

Course includes 

  • Eight sessions lasting between 70 and 90 minutes
  • A course book full of guidance and resources 
  • Access to a YouTube playlist to assist you in your at home practice 
  • An opportunity to play live with your group, backed by The Guitar Social house band, at the end of term party
  • An invite to join our WhatsApp community made up of multiple groups assisting practice, building connections and talking all things music and the guitar 
  • Entry to all of The Guitar Socials events including an event just for your group where you'll get to know your jam buddy's outside of the session room
